Chapter 3: Apollo 13 The bus to Allan Rickus Middle school was always very hectic in the morning. The children clamored on about the homework filled day ahead of them. Some students were trying to finish the homework due today. And others were chatting along about how they were dreading the day ahead of them. Taking their usual back seats on the bus Darce, Elizabeth, Varick, and Rae began to find ways to pass the time. Being the bookworm she was Rae took out a book and began to read. Varick, who was sitting next to her attempted to get some more sleep on the bus. Just across the other seat Elizabeth was sitting cross legged and attempting meditation. And Darce was staring silently out the window of the bus seat. He never said a word, he just watched the world go by. The bus had stopped again, Rae let out a sigh of irritation as it stopped. The next stop was home to the three most annoying kids at the school. The bus door opened and first in was Max Jetters, followed by his two friends Jacob and Zeon. Max saw the four kids sitting at the back, grinning he slowly walked towards the seats in front of them. "Well" he said as he sat down "Look who we have here. The nerd, the loser, the loon, and the silent freak." he listed as he smiled arrogantly. "Go away, Max" Varick said tiredly. "I don't think so Brenna" Jacob said, flicking Varick's forehead is the process. "Not until you four move to the front of the bus. This is where we sit, you know that!". Rae straightened up as she heard this. "I think we'll pass on your aggressive suggestion" she retorted, not looking up from her book. "Whatchya reading there Rae?" Jacob asked, snatching the book from her hands. "Instructions on how to be nerd?" Max taunted as he flipped through the pages of the book. "Actually no" Rae responded calmly. "It's a chemistry book, you need to have at least three brain cells in your head to understand." Rae said, swiftly pushing up her glasses. Before the two boys could respond the bus stopped at the middle school. "We'll finish this later" Max said, walking away with Jacob and Zeon behind them. "Maxwell gives me such negative energy" Elizabeth commented calmly, her eyes still closed from meditation. First classes of the day was always a joy for the four children. The four of them had Mr. Lynns for a history teacher. Mr. Lynns was a complete nerd when it came to history, but his classes were far from boring. He always came up with memorable activities for his topics. When they were learning about the French Revolution he told everyone to research a famous event, person, or thing. Darce being the dark person he is chose to do a report on the guillotine. Or when they spoke about Egyptian history he made quite a few mummy related puns. "Good morning class" Mr. Lynns said as he walked in. "Hows my favorite bunch of students today?". Positive murmurs came from the classroom as he set his briefcase on his desk. "Let's get started shall we?" he said with a smile. "For all you space fanatics out there we are going t-" Mr. Lynns' introduction was interrupted by a knock on the door. He opened the door to find a blonde haired girl in a pink sweater. "Hey dad" she said "Ms. Kneezener sent me to give this to you" she said as she gave him a stack of paper. Mr. Lynns took the paper, his eyes lighting up as he read it. "Ah Jim Lovell's Apollo 13 interview, I've been waiting for Kneezener to print this out. Thank you Sarah". Mr Lynns turned to the class beaming "Students you remember you remember my daughter Sarah. She just as big a history nerd as I am." Mr. Lynns said proudly. "Hey guys" Sarah said waving at Darce, Varick, Rae, and Elizabeth. Along with being a complete history nerd, Mr. Lynns sought to teach his prodigy, his prodigy was his daughter Sarah Lynns. Sarah was nice person, she always hung out with Darce, Elizabeth, Varick, and Rae. Being the history nerd she was she got along with Rae the most. "Alright, well I probably shouldn't keep your class from learning. I'll be going." Sarah said as she waved at the four children. "Alright, thanks Sarah" Mr. Lynns said "I'll see you after school". And with that Sarah exited the classroom. "Alright" Mr. Lynns clapped "As I was saying, today we will learn about one of my favorite subjects Apollo 13." To be continued........
